The perfect honeymoon destination depends as much on when you travel as on where. A place that is magical in December can be scorching in May or washed out in July. Since wedding dates are rarely planned around the weather, we have put together a month-by-month guide to help you choose a destination that will be at its best for your honeymoon.
Andaman Islands are at their finest, with calm seas, clear water and pleasant temperatures. Snorkel at Elephant Beach, watch sunset at Radhanagar Beach on Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and spend a lazy day on Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). Goa and Kerala are also excellent choices.
Rajasthan is romantic in February, with cool days and festive energy. Stay in a heritage haveli in Jaipur, then continue to Udaipur for lake-view dinners. Dubai is also ideal this month, with comfortable weather for desert safaris and dhow cruises.
Late winter is lovely in Kerala. Combine a private houseboat in Alleppey with a misty stay among Munnar's tea gardens. Andaman and Goa remain good options before the heat builds up.
As the plains heat up, head to the hills. Shimla and Manali are pleasant, with blooming apple orchards and cool evenings. Book a cottage in Old Manali or a heritage hotel near Shimla's Mall Road.
Manali is at its peak, and the Atal Tunnel makes day trips to Sissu and the Lahaul Valley easy. For a quieter option, try the forests around Shimla, such as Mashobra or Narkanda. Dubai is getting hot, so it is best avoided this month unless you plan to stay mostly indoors.
Ladakh opens up for the season. For adventurous couples, few experiences compare to a night in a luxury camp by Pangong Tso or under the stars in Nubra Valley. Remember to plan acclimatisation days in Leh.
The monsoon arrives across most of India. Ladakh lies in a rain shadow and stays largely dry, making it one of the best honeymoon choices. Alternatively, embrace the rain with a monsoon Ayurveda retreat in Kerala.
Ladakh remains a strong choice. For couples who love greenery, Goa in the monsoon is surprisingly romantic, with lush landscapes, waterfalls and fewer crowds. Choose a boutique villa with a pool.
Early September is still good in Ladakh, with clear skies and golden landscapes. Towards the end of the month, Rishikesh becomes pleasant for couples who like a mix of spirituality, riverside cafes and gentle adventure.
Post-monsoon Kerala is lush and fresh. Rishikesh offers river rafting and cosy riverside resorts. Andaman starts to open up for the season. October is also when Dubai weather begins to turn pleasant again.
A top month for Dubai, with comfortable temperatures for desert camps and evening walks along the marina. Andaman and Goa are also excellent, and Rajasthan is beautiful for heritage stays.
For snow-loving couples, Manali and Shimla often see their first snowfall. For warmth, head to the Andaman Islands or Goa. Book early, as Christmas and New Year dates fill up fast and prices rise.
